  John Dryden lived at a time in history that a man could be arrested or killed if they went against the king or talked badly about powerful people. This fact did not stop Dryden from becoming one of the most renowned satire writers of his time. Dryden would become famous for his heroic poems, different plays, and criticisms but his satire is what separated him from the rest.  More about John Dryden .   Satire is defined as a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn. Dryden would use satire as a way to public mocked his personal and public enemies in a way that would not have any repercussions to him.   Blogpost #1  My initial impression of the "Englightenment" period is that of a time of progressive change. Prior to this era religious rule dictated much of everyday life. If someone's ideas went against the church they would suffer but with the fall of Cromwell, the people would have greater freedom. This relates to the 21st century and more importantly to today as social justice for women with the "Me too," movement and minorities with "Black Lives Matters," illustrate how people today are ready for the change that is slowly happening today. Just as in the "Englightenment" period people today are also seeing the flaws with the government and more importantly how the rich control more of the overall power of the country than they should. My greatest interest in the era is everything that is happening right before and during the American Revolution. I am your average college senior. Ready to be finished with school and excited to see what the next chapter in my life will hold. I love to read fantasy novels, write poetry, novels, and I love cooking.
